This blog post is dedicated to those vacationers that like to go to a microbrewery or try some local beers when they vacation. Literally get a taste of what Maui has to offer with these recommendations of fun places to sample unique beers on Maui. You can even pick up some unique souvenirs and gifts for friends back home at a few of these places!
Maui Brewing Company – If you only have time to visit one of the five places on our list, then the Maui Brewing Company’s corporate headquarters in Kihei is your best option. A new brewing facility was recently constructed in 2015 and is quite impressive! A large tasting room features over 25 locally brewed beers that you can sample by the pint or choose to try a sampler tray complete with six samples you select. The chalk board of beer selections is constantly changing! You can also plan a brewery tour to learn about how the beer is made. If hungry, one of Maui’s favorite food trucks is always parked just outside and can deliver food right into the brewery for you.
Kohola Brewery – Growing in popularity is this start-up brewery that now occupies the old brewing facilities in Lahaina of the Maui Brewing Company. Kohola Brewery is dedicated to those who appreciate craft beer and the spirit of making beer. With beer names like “Talk Story”, “Hana Road Wheat”, and “Red Sand”, it is going to be hard to select which one you want to try first! This brewery is located in Lahaina, just a few blocks off of famous Front Street.
What Ales You – This small taphouse in Kihei recently opened in 2015 and is a fun option for sampling some unique beers and wine from all over the world. The 16 beer taps are in a constant rotation so visitors can sample a different beer each time they arrive. Just because you are in a bar in the middle of the Pacific Ocean doesn’t mean you can’t try a new experimental beer from a small microbrewery from Washington DC! Check the happy hour schedule to see when you can sample the beers at great bargain prices!
Monkeypod Kitchen – You simply cannot go wrong at the Monkeypod Kitchen. It is not uncommon for there to be a two-hour waiting list for diners that do not have a dinner reservation during Maui’s peak winter visitor months. While we highly recommend a stop at Monkeypod for a good meal, their bar has quite a strong reputation as well. The lilikoi foam topped Mai Tai may be the most photographed drink on the island, but this post is about beer. The Monkeypod has a long bar with over 30 beers on tap that you can sample. Sample international beers from Belgium, Germany, and more!
Rock & Brews – Located on Maui’s North Shore in the town of Paia, Rock & Brews is an indoor/outdoor dining option with a bar that serves over 35 beers on tap and another 20+ bottled beers to pick from. Rock & Brews is a growing national chain (with 10+ locations currently) owned by famous rockers and music tour promoters. So, you can assume the Rock & Brews restaurants know how to have a good time. Locals can enjoy Kama’aina pints, which is a free upgrade from the 16oz beer to a 20oz beer.
