What to do when raining on Maui

Maui has countless amazing outdoor activities such as going to the beach, exploring a waterfall hike, snorkeling, or biking down a volcano. If you happen to be on Maui and the weather is a bit dark and wet (which is very unusual), we have created this list of possible fun activities to still enjoy while vacationing here.

Maui Ocean Center: Check out the best aquarium in the state of Hawaii! You could spend hours exploring the exhibits at the Maui Ocean Center. View sea turtles, jelly fish, indigenous reef fish, and even a large variety of sharks! There is a touch pond where guests can handle star fish, sea cucumbers, and other reef wildlife.

Window Shopping: Head to some of the best shopping venues on the island to see what the latest fashion trends are in Hawaii. You could purchase clothing, jewelry, art work, and more that all has a Hawaiian theme. Maybe you will find that perfect gift for a loved one back home. Some top shopping venues include the Shops at Wailea, Outlets of Maui, Lahaina’s Front Street, Whalers Village, and Kaahumanu Center.

Catch a Show: The Maui Arts and Cultural Center is Maui’s hub for live performances, touring bands, stand-up comics, and independent movies. Be sure to take a look at their website to learn about upcoming events. Or, you could catch a movie at the Maui Mall, located centrally on the island. Before the movie, be sure to stop by Tasaka Guri Guri, for an island frozen treat. Locals and tourists have been enjoying this ice-cream-like treat for decades. Pick from only two flavors that are both amazing!

Wine Tasting: Drive up to volcano to the beautiful grounds of Ulupalakua. The drive will take you through a very different Maui setting where our island’s ranchers call home. Drive past cattle, goats, horses and more as you finally make it out to the only winery on the island. Head in to their tasting room and sample locally made wine, some of which is made from fermenting pineapples. After the tasting is complete, walk across the street to the general store for some food you won’t find anywhere else on the island like elk.

Spa Treatment: Maui has some of the top recognized spas in the world. From tropical fruit infused dipping tubs to mud treatments enriched with volcanic ash, you will surely find some treatment that screams your name. We have even heard of a beer bath and massage treatment offered by one resort. The Four Seasons in Wailea, Grand Wailea, and Ritz Carlton are all great options for message and spa treatments.
