We hear time and again about guests of ours that got married on Maui or honeymooned on Maui and are now back to celebrate with a return trip. It is no secret that Maui is a romantic destination. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we thought we would put together a list of romantic activities and ideas while you are on Maui with that special someone.
Sunset Cruise: There are a number of boat tour companies that offer sunset cruises (both out of Maalaea harbor and Lahaina harbor). Gently glide along the coastline as you watch the sun sink below the horizon. Sit back as night falls and boat staff members bring tropical drinks to your table. Most cruises also include a dinner or heavy appetizers.
Waterfall Hike: There is something about a waterfall that screams romance isn’t there? Our three top recommendations for viewing a waterfall on Maui are 1) Twin Falls – located in Haiku (and a relatively short hike) 2) Seven Sacred Pools – located in Hana 3) Pipiwai Trail – located in Hana (which ends in a spectacularly tall thin waterfall).
Haleakala Sunrise: What could be more romantic than waking up at 4:30 am to drive up to the top of a volcano? We agree that waking up that early while on vacation will be tough, but once you get to the summit of Haleakala and view the day starting on an entire island below you, you will realize you made the right decision. Countless locals and guests put viewing a sunrise from atop Haleakala as their most memorable experience in Hawaii. Just remember to dress warmly and bring the blanket (and maybe even a jug of hot chocolate).
Couples Massage: The Grand Wailea and Four Seasons (located next to each other in Wailea) have world-famous spa facilities. You don’t have to be a guest to book one of their relaxing treatments. The Grand Wailea has become famous for their treme hydrotherapy collection of Hawaiian sea salt baths. The five separate dipping pools all differ in water color, tropical fruit infusion, and overall effect on the skin and body. If you happen to be staying in one of our condos at the Sugar Beach Resort, you can book a beach message right there at the property through the onsite Massage Maui.
Luau Dinner Show: Put on that flower print dress or tropical-themed Aloha shirt and head to a luau for a night of entertainment. Learn about the Hawaiian culture with hands-on activities such as lei making, hula lessons, and games like ulu maika (rolling a rock through sticks). Feast on popular Hawaiian dishes like kalua pork, lomi lomi salmon, and chicken long rice. Cap off your night with an amazing hula performance. There are numerous luau shows to choose from on both the south and west sides of the island.
